acqueline Horbrook, the Founder and CEO of Black Christian Influencers, Inc. engages a fresh method of ministry. Since 2018, her non-profit organization seeks to influence future world changers, “to promote social integrity through online interactions that exemplify the teachings of Christ.” Horbrook’s Masters in Counseling and College Student Development, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing have come together into a platform that boasts more than 54K followers on Instagram.

But, she wouldn’t say “boast.” Horbrook has a heart for ministering to those that are striving to create change in their communities, and celebrate even amidst the real downside. It was her own powerful story about battling with and overcoming depression, starting her own business, mothering her daughters, and learning that God empowers that has catapulted her brand.

MESSAGE: If there was a black Christian influencer [reading] right now, and they’re concerned about the virality of their page and profile, what would you say to them is the purpose of being an influencer?
Horbrook: Why are you wanting to be of influence is important because if your why is to gratify yourself and to exalt yourself, then probably I wouldn’t say you’re a Christian influencer. [That’s] because the opportunity of a Christian influencer is to not put the attention on yourself but to magnify the God that has brought you up to where you are. It is to get the attention back to Him.

That’s the problem a lot of people are chasing the status, and not Jesus, like not chasing His purpose. God can tell the difference between someone who is chasing status and positions and someone’s really trying to achieve a closer relationship with Him.

And in all honesty you know my testimonies were the ones that really helped people know that they can do this life of living, as a Christian. And that is what I believe is needed. That’s the transparency; that’s the authenticity that influencers have to bring to be effective. We have to really share parts of our lives. We’re not the preacher, (some of us are), but most of us are literally the stories; we’re the testimonies of God’s goodness and grace of Him over our lives.
